Session 11 - 02/07/10

Harpies [5] descend to the ground level and start singing. Lucan and Kohana manage to get in the first strikes and disrupt the lead Harpy's attack. The creatures daze and immobilize us, pulling us closer into their clutches. While they seem to have the initiative, I use the WORD to harm one and try to free Maya from the SONG. Inyan manages to bring one closer to death. The lead Harpy freezes and falls to the ground and shatters. The remaining Harpies use their corruption of the WORD and SONG to harm us. I feel their foul magics are slowly wearing us down. Even Maya's unfurling of the Battle Standard does little to help us.

Perhaps these are more humans, twisted and corrupted like the creatures we found under the tunnel at Midpoint Island. It would appear that we may have found our enemy or perhaps another to add to the list of threats to the People. Kohana succumbs to their vile SONG and lays there until we manage to lay them low. I use my skill to bring Kohana to his feet and allow us to seek shelter. They carry belt pouches which are hand crafted and rough. The Harpies themselves, appear to be Human though greatly changed with the wings and their feet are more like hands complete with an opposed thumbs.

Inyan appears to be stressed and has curled into a ball while we rest. He mumbles about control and so alone. It appears to have had a negative effect on his psyche, which bodes not well for the future. He explains that the badgers are sent away to camp for training and that to lose one names is the sign of honor. He explains that it not unusual for pups going to this camp to be killed in the process of training. A waste of life in many ways. It seems that there is much to learn that the Badgers do not share.

Lucan and Kohana attempts to scale the building, though it is very unstable and soon Kohana returns to the ground. As they are working on the building, I remove some on the pinion feathers, noticing they are very light. With a suggestion from Kohana, I harvest a number of the femurs and tongues. Upon examining their claws, I notice they are shod in crudely worked metal. Lucan examinations of the Harpy "lair" shows net bags of food, containing nuts, berries, and fruit [preserved in some way]. In playing with the feet, I find they can be locked into place for perching, the teeth show no indication that they eat meat, and are all double jointed.

They appear to be intelligent and perhaps a threat to us.

As we look around the secured building, Lucan thinks there is movement inside the building. Our search turns up the former gate that now prevents it from opening. Kohana suggests that he Wolf Step over to turn off the lightning yet will be alone. Then we will climb over the fence once it is safe. Kohana steps and attempts to open the door but fails and must use a Knock ritual to open it. With great care, he manages to pull one of the fuses, turning off the power. We manage to climb over with great care. Inyan stops at the top to remove the razorwire for the rest of us to cross.

The only way in is a single locked, barred, and spiked door. It requires the WORD to open. We see a dark hallway, leading further into the building. There are a number of plastic seals in the corridors, trapping bad air in each cell. Using bolts and Kohana's ability to circulate air to clear out the space. We find a stairwell up and at the top find another sheet covering. Beyond the door, there's a strange plastic room around a wood frame [decontamination chamber]. This is part of a larger room. Inyan enters the room and is sprayed with a liquid that tingles, yet appears to be unharmed. On the farside, Inyan found a box with a red/green button. And after a question, pushes the red button that seems to have shut off the pump.

There's a red line in the room that has blood spatters on the near side. It appears to have come from the double door. This leads us to check on the side rooms. One is a broom closet, the other is a corner office. There's refills of the chemicals in large white buckets. I acquire the poles from the mop and broom for testing. We cross over the red stripe to no effect and then Lucan opens to door for Inyan. We find a hallway with doors to the left and right. Starting from the left, we find nothing until we head to the right. There's a large "blast door" that we lock and seal with magic.

In our searching, we find another artifact, something the Humans called a fire extinguisher. It puts out fires and can damage others with cold. A clearing out of the bottom floor finds 4 more poles that would make good javelins with working. Our continued exploration of the bottom level turns up nothing. We are left with a single path, the "blast door".
