DnD:AnimalPlanet:Sadian Session Sixteen
From RainGamersWiki
Session 16 - 05/02/10
The large Harpy has a staff [topped with a and a necklace of teeth [very large teeth]. I suggest that we try to talk to them and move forward, the noise gets a louder. It seems to have a pattern, but nothing discernible. I dismount & move a bit closer, when two of the creatures glide forward to block my progress. These creatures are more avian than people and look at us oddly. I tell them that we come in peace and mean them no harm [in common, felid, mustilid, & canid]. Kohana asks them in English, which makes them holler & squawk more & more. They appear to at least intelligent. As I move forward, one of them throws a spear and we are once again forced into a fight.
Two of creatures open their jaws significantly and wail out a disturbing warping of the WORD. I use the WORD to compel the large harpy to the ground and let Inyan attack her. The Harpy uses her staff to again cast a corrupted WORD which hurts the ears but little else. She unleashes more attacks which slams into us with a terrific force. Two of the creatures breathe fire using some sort of alchemical solution, which blinds me temporarily. Maya transposes us as I require a moment to recover. I keep the WORD of Fortification to sustain my pack and manage to clear my head. They use fire to some small effect, but the WORD protects me. Our attacks do little to effect our foes, but we rally around our Battle Standard that Maya plants.
The WORD heals Inyan to allow him to keep the Harpies occupied while the others continue to whittle away our opponents. Fate works against me to hinder my effort to support my pack, through the song of Courage is sustained. They are quite adept at using alchemy or other items of artifice. We find four of the ash pouches, two partially full bottles of spirit, and two fire producing artifacts. The large Harpy claw staff was identified as a young dragon's claw as were the teeth on the necklace. These are smaller than the creature we saw in Oakland. This appears to be a hunting party.
Kohana uses his speaking ritual that allows us to speak with the Harpies. We get their names and they request to be allowed to treat their dead. We allow them, giving them back the staff and necklace as offerings to the dead. We travel to the Metrion to talk with the Harpies. Our prisoner is Wings Lightly, 3rd of the Wing of Dreamers Awaken. They are not so much different than our pack. They attacked us as being barbarians [no disrespect, just a narrow of view]. It appears they do have a central government of sorts. He is willing to treat with their First in order to prevent such an violent occurrence in the future. It appears they control a great deal of area, all of San Fran, to the edge of the Park, and the panhandle. The population maybe lower, but they could be considered to be more powerful.
They do know of the one across the bay "Cold-Blood", who is a sole creature. There is more than one tribe of beings. They are pragmatic people and perhaps we could find a common ground. There's an issue with territory and bargaining from a position of strength. They do have a sense of compensation between Wings. Should we wish to talk to them, we should display our banner upon the tallest of buildings & Wings Lightly says he will parley before attacking us.
Upon returning to the human, Charles allows us into his living area. He is wearing "normal clothing" & appears to be in good health. The living space is very small & packed with stuff. Charles begins to cook and we watch with fascination at the various marvels. We tell of our travel to the CSA & encounters with the plant. It appears that he is about to end his life & wants to end it around other people & a final trip outside. He also gives us a copy of his journal. Once outside Charles begins to cough up blood and Maya cuts his throat to speed his journey to the Raven Queen. We cremate the body using cash, spare furniture, and distilled spirits.
We find a Nature Book [+5 to Nature roll] Atlas of California Basic Electronic Book [+4 to Aracana] Adventure's of Lewis & Clark [Travelogue about a humans' journey] We find a Revolver with 18 rounds of ammo There are a few very sharp knives [Dagger +2]
We discuss returning back to the island and presenting our case to the Council for review. There are reasons for staying and returning. There's an issue with who to contact and pass along the information. I suggest that we send a message to the Council via the Scribe & to Shinte. We re instructed by Kohana's grandfather to return despite the debate in the Council.
A Dream That Night - Old fashioned human Grey Door - Something is written on the door, but there's an urgency to open it as if there's something that I wanted on the other side of it. I can know read and speak English.
