Session 10 - 01/10/09
As we settle in for the night, Kohana and I send out messages to people we trusted. We send the messge - Saw explosion on the island, please Advise. Inyan requests a message to his grooming partner to find shelter on Midpoint Island.
In the morning, we receive a message from Shinte's grandfather to meet the Wildcat captain Curs'son. We get various responses from our contacts saying that there is trouble and to please stand by. Upon arrival we see a new boat design with three hulls. Shinte's father [his council rep] is on the boat. His father announces that Shinte will be taking his place on the Council. He set fire to the Council hall and most likely will be disposed. The pressure has been relieved but this will only be temporary. We need to find a enemy to unite the people and force them to expand to the Midpoint island and to the mainland.
We proposition that the dragon, the metal men, rats, and mushroom men, but they are not immediate threats. If needs be, we will become the enemy, but he wishes that we become heroes of the people and lead the others to greatness. He suggests that we communicate through our former Pack members. A threat must be found, either real or imagined, to unite the people. Shinte's dad suggests that we search across the bay.
Curs'son tosses me a scroll case [waterproof]. There's a number of papers with all the ships & captain's names plus their routes & timing. By studying the paperwork, there appears to be more boats than previous known. All the routes cover the bay and go into the Ocean, but stay close to land. This will be useful in getting over to the San Fransisco side.
Our next decision is what to do and where to go. Checking out the Post Office and some warehousing. We discuss why we should head across the Bay. It is suggested that we use the reasoning that there might be other People and it would be wise for us to check it out. We will still need to check the cargo containers, then head off to the Post Office.
We check some of the shipping containers and pull one into shore, then tie it off. After a physical attempt, Kohana opens one with knock. There boxes are covered with the Apple symbol, yet has no prey food. However, they are The container is full of these devices, but not food. These float, which promises good thing for either shelter or storage.
Mushroom people note - infected humans, not related to the people. They might be an issue and we will need to find the extent of their territory. This will allow us to mark it off an area as a no go zone. We mark off a dozen or so cargo containers for collection by the Wildcats.
Our trip to the Post Office is uneventful and it appears to intact. A fence surrounds the building except for a single point. There are some metal shutters around the doors and some of the windows. Two fences, the inner one is electrifiied with a variable charge, surrounds the back, leaving the front accessable. I use the Word to open the shutter & letting Lucan open the inner door.
I check out the door with the keypad & strangle black pad. It appears to be locked, but keypad shows worn number [1467#]. Inyan checks out the gate but they are locked. Attempts are made to open the lockboxes, attempting to open the large ones via lockpicking. Kohana and I slip thru the box, working our way around to the employee entrance to allow the others in. While the building is intact, the contents appear to have been decayed a great deal. Outside of EEKA, this is the only building that has reliable lighting. Another temple to an ancient human god? Kohana seeks out a spirit box and finds one that controls the power & lighting in the building. While we know that something is powering the lights, but the source eludes us. A decision is made to secure this building to use as our base of operation. We spend the day securing and clearing out the various spaces for usage. A check on the roof, shows large black panels that move. I stay up on the roof for a bit to watch the surrounding area. Lucan works to provide us with a living area. We spend the night and then move out in the morning.
Upon arrival at the foot of the bridge I find the package with the samples of the Ursine writing for future usage. There is also a personal note from Ovide. After checking on EEKA & finding is secure, the groups heads out with a load of stuff to return to the Isle. We send a message to the nearest captain in order to catch a ride across the Bay. The Wildcats are able to tow one of the cargo crates to Midpoint Island, which is occupied with People working to make the place habitable. While the Wildcats takes us there, they are unhappy & nervous, to the point of rowing it in backwards to make a fast escape. Tells us good luck & to send a message to pick up the survivors.
Upon arrival there is only little insect noise & nothing like the other side of the Bay. There's a lair of fog that grows thicker as we move into the ruins. Lots of destroyed building, nothing that can be secured but some for defensible. Kohana says there is a temple of books that he wants to see. Our choice is to move on, looking for places to secure while heading to towards this temple. There's a lot of flooding in the area as we head north-west. Bottom floors are burnt on most building, but higher up might be securable. Our journey leads us to a building called the Federal Mint, which appears to be perfect for our use.
Lucan sees a large shape detach itself from the 12th floor of the ruined building. It is followed by others that attack. They are the harpies of legend...
