The Wildcats are willing to take us north half a day up the coast. Our hosts seem adept at making their new creation go forward. I am sick, as the boat rocks and rolls with the waves. From the crow’s nest comes a cry of “Sail ahead Port”. As we do not have any other boats, this is a cause for curiosity. The Captain says it’s no moving and no sign of life on deck. There is extensive damage to the ship and the sails are in tatters. Passing over, it would seem that the ship was abandoned some time ago and smells strongly of rotting seaweed. The top deck is clear of anything loose. There’s between 10-30 days of rust on the mast, perhaps having come loose from it’s dock during the earthquake. The ship lurches suddenly out of motion & the lines creak & groan under the strain. I suggest that we leave, thought Kohana wants to take the lashed chest.

Inyan clips the side of the chest leaking out black ichor which smells terrible and is toxic. Kohana is temporarily overcome by the smell. From the side of the ship, three large masses of seaweed crawl out of the water in a rapid fashion but slow down once on deck. One slaps me with a slime encrusted tentacle. I grab a vial of Dragon Tar which burns the creature but splashes on the deck, which begins to spread. The Wildcat Captain orders the ropes cut in order to save the his ship. Kohana makes short work of the fire, including putting out the seaweed as well. Maya is swallowed by one to the creature’s but manages to fight his way free. I use a vial of Greenbane to create a zone of forbearance around myself. The creatures are strongly resistant to the Word and to all things but fire. I work to bolster my pack-mates as the fight will be a long one. Lucan destroys one of the creatures, allowing Maya to charge into one of the remaining creatures. A second goes down under a sustained assault. Inyan is engulfed by the creature, but is rescued by Maya. The Wildcats fire arrows, setting fire to the ship and the creature, which Kohana manages to put out with his ball of cold. The final one goes down with a few more decisive blows.

An exploration of the ship reveals bones and heaps of debris. There is little salvage and the ship is a total loss. There’s some metal to be removed and then the captain suggests that the ship be burned, but eventually sinks after some removal by Inyan and Lucan.

Our arrival to the shoreline is without fanfare and in safety. The trek to the North begins. We follow the old path called “1”, until we reach a sign for a place called Dogtown. There is a pond of reddish water that is undrinkable and some human containers that have large holes in them. Lucan can find no large critters that might have made these holes, but we camp in a nearby stand of trees. While the others secure the camp, I work on gathering herbs and materials for potion making. The Word gives me insight, this place where the humans sent their mobile dens to die and that the pond might be useful after all...
