Mission 3
Off-line session 4.5
I confronted Councilor Heechanagin at an opportune time for me and an inopportune for him. I asked him bluntly how the council could sacrifice us for a mission they wanted to fail.
He let me know that not all on the council felt we would fail, but that we had no friends there.
I let him know that perhaps he was losing his as well.
Session 5
After the Council heard Sadian's story being passed around, and some of us pestered or cajoled them on our own terms, they reconsidered our role, as well they should have. In chambers, they actually told us to our snouts that we were valuable. Hmph. I already knew that.
They gave us another mission, one that would greatly benefit all the people. Research had pointed out a location called "IIKA" which held many supplies left by the humans, some of which may still be in good condition. These supplies could be used to build shelters on Midpoint Island. So, once again, we took paw to boat and made our way to the far eastern shore.
We landed near the base of the Great Metal Causeway and set about to exploring the area, to see if it was secure to use as a standard landing point for The People's travels. We made our way up the slope and were quickly accosted by a troupe of wild boar. They were savagely hungry, but we made quick work of them. In less than an hour after landing, Kohana signaled the boat to return with a great feast. We filled the boat with meat, after taking our share, and moved on.
Pressing further inland, we noticed an area filled with large metal boxes floating on the water. Their use is a mystery, but we could make use of them as dens, if we can get them to Midpoint. I suggested we tether one and use that to fill with supplies from IIKA, but getting it to either Midpoint or Anheles would take great strength.
We also found an area of many open pools of everything from sludge to clear water, though there was a nasty smell. Sadian says there is alchemy at work, transmuting the sludge into the water. It made no sense to me. Things are what they are. Using magic or alchemy to change them to another thing only means they can no longer fulfill their purpose.
I don't know the purpose of sludge, but that is how I feel.
As we mounted the observation area of the pools, the one before us erupted into a horde of more humans that had gone off. These had been combined with some horrible mushroom and were a race of walking mushrooms now, with a clear social structure in their ranks.
The leader came at us, but Sadian confused him with a high-pitched song, and in a daze, he stumbled off the platform to his death. The rest of their warrior types came at us, pounding with fists and spraying us with spores. Several of us, including me, became sickened by the spores.
Two of their company seemed to be shamen, capable of returning health to their wounded! Even so, after a long slog of a battle, we were eventually victorious with only some fresh scars to show for it, thanks to the Raven Queen's blessings.
Oh, and Fierce Kestrel's blessings of mending the body through Kaliska's worthy prayers.
Off-line session 5.5
As we rested after the battle, we each chanced to speak our piece concerning the Council's attitudes of late.
Session 6
We move on through the underpasses of the smoothstone paths. The place called “IIKA” seems to be directly ahead, so we proceed.
There is a huge flattened smoothstone structure and a large building. Kohana identifies it as “IIKA”, spelled “IKEA”. He says it is a “recycled store”. Suddenly, lights begin burning! I am on guard, but Kohana says it is a type of alarm to sense intruders.
Lucan suggests a quick approach to keep the element of surprise, and Inyan begins to approach. I follow. One door is marked in green, one in red. We chose the green one. A spirit box by the door flashes and speaks. Inyan growls at it. Kohana reads the screen as requiring an identity card or membership number.
Shinte located an “IKEA Book” with numbers on it, but the spirit box did not like these numbers. Shinte and Lucan found a box holding the door shut, and Kohana broke it. Inyan pushed the heavy door open and we went inside. Stairs go up, so we go. As soon as we approach, the stairs begin to move! Kaliska disenchants the spirit briefly, and Inyan is able to smash its lightning maker. So we continued up.
We enter a whole floor full of displays of goods. Shinte climbs up and gets the layout. Lucan is concerned about the warm air filling the room, and that the council is leading us into weakness and sloth. We engage in a brief debate about the Council's intentions and proceed with exploring.
Kohana found many pencils, Sadian found pieces of chalk.
We moved on. We found a small place with a double door with no handles but a button. We left it alone. We got to a large open area with tables, and a horrible smell of rot. But there were bags of salty foods, like chips off of the salt deposit. We took a few.
Heading downstairs, we found a huge room full of partitions stacked full of paper cubes. Sadian talked to a spirit box and a device made horrible noises fetching a paper cube for him. In the cube were tiles of wood.
A bell began ringing, and a spirit spoke human words to warn us that the temple was to be closed. We went to “register”, picking up a few more items while we left.
Inyan picked up a box of tiles and walked out the exit. Noises and lights suddenly exploded! Lucan shot one of the flashers. Lucan and Kohana cut the lightning river keeping the door closed, and we left.
There was a ringing bell on the outside, but Kohana and Lucan broke it. Suddenly a troupe of lizard creatures moved against us! Lucan calls them “drakes”. They charged and spat acid at us. The smaller drakes were tripped up by Kohana's magic ice, but the large ones closed and clawed us hard.
The party moved forward and struck the great beasts. Many of us were hurt badly by them. Kohana fought some of them off with a blast of fire. I summoned the defender's mark and forced them all to challenge me. We ganged up and defeated one of the large ones. Some other drakes fell as we struck. Many of us were injured, but Kaliska blessed us, and I summoned the Queen's blessing of my armor, and we kept fighting.
