Session 7

Sadian and Kohana continue to question the Ratling leader about the swam and their lair. The underlings still seem to pay attention to only me since I smacked one.

Kohana and I use the swarm to get the materials to fix the lower door, and Kohana “makes it whole”. Then we do the same to the front door. Then Kohana talked to the spirit box and told it to make the temple secure. It seemed to understand and obey.

We head to the rat lair. Lucan reports that Coyotes who come to this land have sometimes seen Cousin Rat. Hanshan says the lizards are “dilong”, “forked-tongues”. He knows where the metal men live. He has seen paintings of bears near the city center. We continue north.

A bit of trouble climbing into his den: Shinte and Kohana fall into a hole full of garbage, but a rope is enough to get them free. Everyone else squeezes into the den, while I wait outside with the swarm.

We send the swarm home for the night, and I crowd in with Hanshan, while the rest sleep on the roof. The others debate and send a report to the council while I watch Hanshan. I make it known to Kohana that I suspect Hanshan is up to something and has guided the pack to the roof only to be beset by the “winged hunters”.

But we all survive. Hail to the Raven Queen for her protection. The swarm is waiting with some small birds for me. I dig in and pass the meat along. Then we move out with Sadian banging out a traveling song.

We reach a large low building of grey, burnt stone and make our way in and to the basement. Into a room, the floor covered with broken glass. A green panel sits by a large door. Hanshan says it's unlocked, and he opens it. Inside, it is very cold. There are many shelves with labels.

Kohana and Sadian smell something good inside and start grabbing “food”. Sadian looks concerned, but Kohana goes to town on it. He starts frothing at the mouth and having seizures. He does not seem poisoned. After he wakes up, he does not feel like eating it again.

Lucan says The Unmaker has told him to eat the clay with the juice. The others try to stop him, but I urge them to allow him, and he does, while we stand way back. He survives but feels a bit weaker.

Shinte wants to try it, so he does. He feels weaker as well. Next, Inyan also wants to eat it, though why he wants to be weaker, I don't understand. He wakes up and feels better in every way, he says. We go searching for other cold boxes. The one we finds is not glowing and smells horrible.

We leave the building and head outside. Hanshan is nowhere to be found. Kohana shouts out for him, and something else comes. “Jiaolong”, Kohana says. They look like long, low reptiles with very large teeth.

Kohana hits them with blasts of ice and fire. Shinte advances sneakily. Sadian starts chanting an inspiring tune. I bring the blessing of death to the grey one, but it seems the Raven Queen is not listening well today. The battle is pitched.

The two smaller reptiles fall quickly, but the large one is a tough opponent. After a savage battle in which I was swallowed and Inyan was almost, we finally killed it.

The swarm returns and begins to clean me. We dress the meat and head back to Hanshan's, but we find his building collapsed. We head back to IKEA and hole up in the human area to rest.
