Paladin's log, session 14
We approached the IENCE building. It has a dome with wings, four stories tall. The entire structure is relatively intact but choked with plants. Inyan hacks through with the axe we found. The glass on the doors has writing etched into it -- California Academy of Sciences.
The door is locked, but Lucan says it is locked with an alarm upon it. With his skill, he works it open, and Inyan pushes it open. Inside, it smells like lightning and it's cool.
Inyan steps in, but Lucan pulls him away just as he notes a trap. Light appears and a voice speaks what Kohana says is a welcome. On a stand, a human head appears and speaks. Inyan states his name to the device. It speaks it back in Peoplespeech. Then it speaks in English again and Kohana answers but it ignores him.
Inyan says there is a large circular chamber and stairs to each side. Three metal mushrooms stand in the room and start to spark with lightning. Lucan moves in and another stand-head talks to him, and more speak to each of us in turn. Lucan approaches a statue which moves and produces a ball in its hands. I say my name to another head which becomes sort of a human panther face.
Kohana steps in last and talks to the head in English. The rest of us look around the chamber. The head claims to be from a very small soft place.
Sadian approaches a table with small stone figurines on it. Stacked in the air over it are more sets of figurines. Inyan takes up a guard position. Lucan checks out a tall thing made out of wood splinters and avoids pressing the button.
I look at a small version of this building, but it is made of light. When I reach into it, it expands the view and puts pins in places. It's beyond me, so I call Sadian over and he figures it out. He finds information on Eco, the Ikea god, and the Night Kitchen where one can eat in praise of Eco.
Sadian touches the electric mushroom, and his fur stands on end. We make the ritual to seal the door, and a head tells us we must vacate in 30 minutes.
Inyan and Lucan go up the stairs. I notice that the vines on the atrium windows spread out to take in the artificial light inside. Kohana and Lucan investigate the vines and they attack! They are much like the stumps we fought before.
They move upon us. I become Sadian's bodyguard and strike one, but my glaive has little effect. Kohana blasts them with ice. Still they wrap up Sadian and myself in crushing vines and batter Sadian. He has charged up his armor at the mushroom and the stump gets zapped!
Inyan leaps from the top of the stairs and slides down the curved wall and charges one of the stumps on Sadian and bashes it.
They move on Sadian and yank him away. Lucan zaps one before it can shoot a cloud of gas.
Kohana blasts the area with ice and dazes them. They strike back. We take out a few of them and mostly break out of their crushing vines. One tries to move away, but I slash it to death. Sadian and I are stuck by vines, and he speaks a revitalizing word to me.
One shoots a caustic pod at Sadian and myself. It burns us! It blinds us! Nasty stumpses! I summon my second wind and lay on hands to help Sadian.
Kohana delivers a frosty sphere to the remaining stumps. Inyan attacks and Sadian gives me the word again. Lucan delivers two perfect shots to one. It succumbs to the frost. The other mounts the stairs and zaps Lucan. I run after it. The frost ball follows us up the stairs.
Inyan leaps up and shield-bashes it. Lucan finishes it with twin arrows.
The doors lock and the lights go out. We head for the Night Kitchen. All the food has been removed. Sadian finds a box of small wrapped bars which belong to Eco. They smell like prey food. Kohana takes some for the human. We locate a room full of porcelain drinking bowls. It turns on as I approach and I take a quick drink.
We rest here.
