We continue running and reach the foot of the bridge. It is mostly collapsed and very treacherous, and the big uglies are hot on our tails.

Kohana believes we can make a stand out in the middle. We run for the bridge.

Lucan leaps across the gap. Kohana does a magical phase to the other side. Lucan keeps going and collapses a treacherous portion. Kohana secures a rope and tosses it to Sadian and he leaps across. I attach myself to the rope and move across. I miss and dangle off the bridge.

With everyone's help, I climb up to the edge again, and we carefully cross further. The uglies move up and Kohana blasts them with wind, causing two to miss their jumps and fall off. We keep moving further, and Kohana collapses the bridge behind us with ice.

Lucan and Inyan leaps across and hold a rope while the others cross. I leap last. Then we take a rest.

We approach another bridge that will lead to the ruined human city. This one is a safer crossing. The old city is under water. There is an old lookout tower and we head for it.

Lucan sees some tracks like those of the metal men from near home. We spot a road and move along it sticking to the trees. We hide.

A great metal spider is clearing the road way and it passes by. We cross the road and try to get ahead of it. We make it up to the tower. The tip has broken off and a fire glows at the new top. We decide to stay in the small ruined outbuilding for the night. Two figures move around the top of the tower during the night.

Morning comes with fog. We quietly approach the tower and a solid metal door. Sadian knocks. The observation slit opens. Sadian greets the person and it seems surprised! "Holy shit, a talking cat!". We step back as they make to open the door. They are humans! Kohana explains that we have met another human and he died. She shuts the door.

Kohana explains that we killed some of the creatures. She calls them ogres. She reopens the door and comes out, dressed as a bird. She names herself "Alicia", guard commander. She calls the Land of Ports "Portland", now called "Portlandia". They trade with these people. There is a kind of money from Sea Addle.

95% of humans around the world have died. Many still out of contact. Some humans cast spells from Your Rope and the east. She says humans are fine in Why Yoaming and Ost Rail You.

They will take our blood and test it for evil and diseases. She says there are great monsters on land and in the water. We hunt for meat and pelts to share.

On the second evening, the runner returns with a spherical human. It looks like a hideous mutant, but Alicia seems to accept them. The round one is Senior Medic Madrone. She says that we are created and we all agree!

She tells us about the Buy O' Plague. Machines were smart and humans were stupid. They made themselves servants. Humans made a plague that would make thinking machines inside brains. There is something called "gene engineering" which is like what we do with the rabbits to make them tasty and soft. This juice they gave to beings, the First People, to make them smart. But it spread and created many monsters.

Our blood has "nan eytes" which are very small machines which fix things inside or break them.

She has not seen the bears but there are humans with bear totems. She says they worship all of the gods there and our pelts should get us in.

We run out of questions and settle down for a meal of deer.
