Description

Kohana is a team player, and is slightly reserved, especially when dealing with those outside his pack. He tends to listen and ponder things, but when he makes a decision or in an emergency he can move with startling speed. His clothes are simple but immaculate. He is slightly vain, and will often use Prestigitation and/or Mage Hand to keep his clothes and fur spotless and luxurious. He has a very slight build and doesn't look full-grown yet.

Kohana carries a longsword which he almost never uses, a backpack full of adventuring gear, and his prize possession, an sacred artifact of the Cagawakonda pack, a silvery, extensible wand with a white totem on the tip. (A broken car antenna with a Jack-in-the-Box topper.)

History

The Cagawakonda pack, or clan, is an extended family group within the Wolf nation, numbering around 30. They are descendants of arctic wolves, but through interbreeding with other lines only about half the pack still has white fur. The Cagawakonda have done very well for themselves. They are generally considered to produce the best magicians in the Wolf nation, and the best at ice and cold magics among all The People. They also have a strong tradition of keeping oral histories. The Cagawakonda pack have never been the leaders of the Wolf nation, but their elders are often the most trusted advisers of the leaders.

Kohana was born on a cold winter day, the runt of his litter, but also the only one with pure white fur. When he was presented skyward to the Great Spirit, it began snowing, and snowed for almost an hour. Snow is extremely rare on Isla Anheles, and a lasting snow even rarer. This was considered a great omen by the Cagawakonda pack, and Kohana has been trained in ice and snow magics since he was a pup. (Omen background, PHB2, p. 179, bonus +2 to Arcana).

What's the deal with Kohana?

Look, it's the runt of the litter!
Kohana's always been a little teased, looked down on, and kicked around by the other pups (they wouldn't let him play any of their reindeer games). So he's a little insecure, and as he gets more powerful, it will go to his head a little. He may get the wolf equivalent of short man syndrome, or simply lash out at his former tormentors.

Conversion Notes

Snowy step: The Cagawakonda pack, like most wolves, has the ability to teleport. Their teleportation effect is slightly different from other packs; when they teleport, they depart and arrive in a whirling cloud of snow.

Howl of Winter's Fury: This is a modified Winged Horde from Dragon 381, with different flavor text and the "psychic" keyword replaced by the "cold" keyword.

Frosty Sphere: Modified Flaming Sphere, with the "fire" keyword replaced by the "cold" keyword.

Winter's Tempest: Modified Grasp of the Grave, with the "necrotic" keyword replaced by the "cold" keyword.
