Ptolus:ChevSum
From RainGamersWiki
I have heard that some of my companions have been writing their thoughts down. A good idea. And considering what we have recently been doing what we have seen. I think perhaps there should be some kind of record to pass on to others what we were doing, what we were trying to do. If for no other reason in case we do not see the other side of all this. My name is Cheval Vargas, priest of the god Teun, humble healer of the group called Hydra Company. And I fear for our lives. We have come far here in Ptolus we have seen the incredible dangle before our very eyes, while the ugly corrupt bits of this wondorous city seeks to place us in our graves.
Our recent troubles started with the threat and perhaps anger of our patron Lord Zavere who had heard it spoken that we had under his orders went and removed a troublesome sore of this city. A Linech Cran and thus recovered for Lord Zavere an ensorcelled companion, a Lord Abbercrombe, who had been turned into a gold statue. I suspect now while reminiscing that he just used this as an excuse to get us to go and acquire a cure for his enscorcelled companion on the cheap. Lord Zavere had said he got a message from an adept who said he could offer the cure if he could stay in sanctuary at Lord Zavere's adobe. After some mishaps and misfortune, ie:. being thrown out of the Pointy Hat, having to kill our informant (per his wishes), battling through guards, and traps. Including some crossbreed demon gnolls. We met our quarry a Shilukar, who strangely offered us into parley. I must admit at first I thought this Dark Elf was just a wronged party looking for sanctuary. He had perhaps heard of Zavere's plight and knew perhaps of a cure through his membership in the Sorn, who he had apparently had a falling out with and even now hunt him. But this did not in no way shape or form make Shilukar on the side of the angels. This twisted creature was performing experiments in his lair trying to create the perfect creature. This horror left me speechless, which I suppose is lucky for us because it allowed the smooth-talking Otto, and intelligent Reqqast to question him about his supposed cure. So although I wanted to blast him and his little laboratory down to the flaming inferno of hell where they both belonged. They distracted Shilukar from my reactions and got a possible solution to the statuesque Abbercrombe's present predicament. Shilukar showed us a locked container that had a special lock, but he didn't have the key and inside this container is supposedly a cure. Shilukar stated that there is only one thing that would work to open said box. A “Chaos Key” which he had conveniently heard that some locksmith had apparently created one. While talking with Shilukar Reqqast touched Shilukar's hand and, according to Reqqast came into contact with his mind. Reqqast was able to deduce from this contact that what we were dealing wasn't actually Shilukar, but a Simulacrum. Of course this locksmith had been kidnapped or had joined some cult. So through various methods we found the locksmith previous residence. Met Master Cor, a talented locksmth and previous apprentice to the crafter of this Chaos Key. Through him and various other research we found the location of where his Master might be held. A old closed brothel on the north side of town. In there, we found members of the Tolling Bell cult who we had fought previously. Along with various undead of the previous inhabitants, a demon, an angel forced into the shape of a mason jar by demon urine, some golems, a half man/half clockwork beast that had lost his mind, a mechanical chaositech hydra in a cave of ice, several weapons of chaos which thru some literature found on the premises we were able to deduce were going to be used in the destruction of the world, and a suit armor that allowed one to fly, and a ghost who eventually told us the sorry tale of this place. One thing that did happen that I was against, was that Reqqast took the flying suit of armor. I had felt that such a thing would have been better placed with one of the warriors. But as I look back Reqqast has used it to good effect so perhaps it wasn't such a poor choice. At the end of all this we were tired beyond belief and were ready to call it a day, and wouldn't you know at the front gate was several members of the tolling bell cult including a man demon called Wuntad. Wuntad demanded that we turn over the weapons of chaos to him and he would let us live. Once again Otto stepped forward and bluffed/scared the group away with his silver tongue. They left although Wuntad and his lackeys have dogged since trying to get the chaos weapons back. Thus we went about trying to get the weapons destroyed rather than returning right away to Shilukar. Because we were being hounded on all sides by various groups trying to get their bloodied hands on the evil things. But we couldn't find anyone who could destroy them for us let alone keep them safe. Most of the groups who you would think would want such things destroyed didn't want anything to do with them. I was even leery to try my church considering my previous encounters with them. Our last try we went to the inverted pyramid apparently an arcane adept group who's place is located in the sky. We met a Jesica Nor, who gave us finally a good lead on how to destroy the weapons. She mentioned that in a church to Lothian there was device rumored to be able to unmake anything. Called with rather little imagination “The Unmaker”. But the church had been abadoned recently with no good reason given and there were rumors of strange things happening there. So we once again went into the breech and found more horrors lurking just out of site of the people of Ptolus. There were cloned spiritless men, a basilisk, and even a naga. And the top floor there was a corrupt Ex-Lothian priest and a bugbear adept. They of course had heard us tromping up the stairs and they had prepared themselves with spells, and potions. We eventually beat these vile creatures. I say vile because they had turned a holy church devoted to peace and prosperity and the continuance of civilization, and they had corrupted it. The bugbear was of course just playing to type, but the Lothian priest had tossed his own church into darkness. That put him onto the same level as Shilukar I felt. But Reqqast once again strangely the voice of reason showed me that he had been corrupted by magical influence. And although he as a priest of the empire, he was still just a man. And any man can break. So I retracted my curse said blessings over his body and prayed for his spirits freedom. While this discussion was going on it turned out that the “Unmaker” was here, so we place the unholy weapons of chaos into this machine one by one they were destroyed and simple as that we had hurt the forces of chaos, and their plans for the so-called Night of Dissolution. From here we got several items of power. Reqqast turned over to me the item which had corrupted the Lothian priest, it apparently was actually an intelligent dagger that had been created for the use by good Elves. But it's power had been turned corrupted by some evil quasi-gods. Kekitat got the powerful full plate armor that the corrupted priest was using. (A good thing he had been needing some better protection) I also came away with a sharp Morning star. Otto took a gold pocket watch off one of our opponents which I eyed briefly. But decided I would rather create my own. We spent the next day dealing with some middle-men looking for the chaos weapons, selling off various items that we had found through our “Adventuring”, creating a duplicate key. Which I fear the plan is not going to work so well, after seeing how the key works. My concern is this, we bring the key to Shilukar or the fake Shilukar as it were, the group believes I think that Shilukar will try the key, and then once the box is open that Otto will remove the key from Shilukar. I actually believe that Shilukar will have us use the key, because I bet that with him being a simulacrum that he won't be able to. It would probably work better this way, I guess then Cor and I can remove the device from Otto once he proves its the real thing. Then, perform the switch. If Shilukar can use the device then he probably won't remove it, and Otto can't sleight of hand away something that is attached to a persons body... I don't care how good he is...or thinks he is. I also worry about the effects of twice him being plugged into that vile thing. I think the thing feeds not on just a man's humors but his very soul. The blood flowing into the device is just the channel it uses to get to a persons soul. I need knowledge of this thing, and counsel. Perhaps my church might for once offer something.
