Ptolus: Knights of the Pale

Description

While there are many great heroes of good in the world today, many lived in earlier times as well. Some people called these holy champions saints. Many characters alive today draw upon the goodness and purity of these historical figures to fight the forces of evil. The Knights of the Pale specialize in revering and honoring the saints of the past.

The Knights of the Pale are an order dedicated to ridding the world of evil magic as well as the creatures created or summoned by that magic. In particular, they despise demons. Because they also prove fairly adept at fighting undead, they frequently ally with churches of good, although they are not part of any formal church hierarchy.

Advancement

  • In order to join or advance, you must take the Knight of the Pale feat.
  • Taking the feat once acquires:
    • Suite of St. Chausle
    • 2 ranks in Knowledge (Religion)
  • Each time you take the feat, you get the next suite of abilities.
    • Suite of St. Feldin and Suite of Lothian are gained at once.
  • At the beginning of each day, the knight selects one and only one of their acquired suites of abilities to be active for that day.

Special Abilities

  • After acquiring the Suite of St. Daris, the knight also acquires the ability to forge a personal weapon and imbue it with righteous energy.
    • The weapon must be forged from scratch and from raw materials by the knight. The raw materials must be the finest available (abstracted cost 100,000 GP, one week to make).
    • The knowledge is innate and does not require forging skill or feats.
    • Swords are generally preferred by the Knighthood, but the weapon may be of any type.
    • In the hands of the knight, the weapon so forged gains these abilities:
      • +3 to hit and damage
      • Holy type critical hits against Large and Huge creatures
      • Spell resistance of 3 + (character level / 2) to the knight and any non-infernal adjacent
      • Dispel magic 3/day, adept level equal to character level
    • Once it's created, if the knight is separated from this weapon by more than 30 feet, he or she suffers a Wounded damage result which cannot be healed until the weapon is returned. If the weapon is destroyed, the knight immediately suffers the effect of a randomly rolled Large Holy critical hit.
