Ptolus:Reqqast

{Image notes: Original source, Creature Unknown. Also, bear in mind that my Photoshop/Paint.net skills are sadly lacking. I tried to make the scales that are relevant red or at least red tinged, but it came out looking just awful. So, just pretend there's the necessary reddishness over the body and a deeper crimson down the throat and over most of the front torso.}
Since the dawn of the Assarai civilization, showing an enemy's blood on the body was considered taboo, a sign of weakness that the killer was actually marred by the kill. Indeed, down the years, derogatory names have been assigned to those that have gone too far in showing and even delighting in the display of their enemy's blood. To some it was and always will be a rite of power and gain, to others and most especially the nobility, it was a stain of dishonor. So it was that Reqqast, born at Noon on the 4th of Bloom, 698 IA came to receive a permanent mark of dishonor.
Within moments of his reported birth, a Royal Prince of a neighboring tribe died under unusual circumstances. No one, not even the most arcane of scaled magi, have been able to divine the full reason for the death. More insidious reports place a hatch-wiver (commonly associated with flesh-named midwife) released a bushel of poisonous serpents into the cave, and that she might have somehow been equally to blame. But it seems the gods of the Assarai, who were never without a sense of black irony and humor, gifted Reqqast with the mark of his shame for life. With a shaft of light refracted into the cave somehow, he emerged and was immediately scarred of scale, becoming redder than he ought, but with deep, crimson stains along his chin and belly. The name 'Bloodthroat' has stuck with him since his earliest recollection, one he likely will never be rid of.
